Spandau Ballet were the “In Crowd’s” band. They ushered in a new wave of visually dominated pop and their mechanical, stylized sound was born and bred on the dance floors of London’s West End. They were Bowie Kids, Blitz Kids, and white soul boys embracing electronica, frilly shirts, and tuxedos. Spandau spearheaded post-new romantic scene pop along with Duran Duran, Sade, Culture Club, and Wham! and by the mid-80s when they released their fifth album Through The Barricades they were global superstars. Although it yielded the three U.K. hit singles “Fight For Ourselves,” “How Many Lies” and the title cut, the latter would be that band’s final Top 10 marking the end of an era for the group.
