Legendary New York author and musician joins Andalusian troubadours for a startling record of gospel, rhythm, and futuristic folk blues A powerful statement of love and protest Get ready for an adult dose of Old Testament gospel, smoldering songs of freedom, salvation, and lots of love – hollering and deep country crooning, twisted blues, plantation tunings, African percussion, and outer-space spirituals – this is a new breed of rhythm and roots music, a sonic manifesto for these crazy times!

THE DEVIL CAN’T DO YOU NO HARM is the first collaboration of renowned New York musician and writer Mike Edison and internationally acclaimed Spanish blues wizards Guadalupe Plata. It is a record of spirit and passion, at once ultra-modern – this is the soundtrack for a new generation of intellectual outlaws, resistance fighters, blues scholars, and defiant individualists who still believe in rock’n’roll as a powerful agent of deliverance and freedom -and deeply fermented in tradition, drawing on the plugged-in mojo and swampy hoodoo of Bo Diddley and the Staple Singers, and the demonic and divine sounds of the street songs and church music that are the very spine of rock’n’roll. Guadalupe Plata are already internationally renowned – 2013 they won the coveted Impala Award for Best European Rock Band, as well as Artist of the Year, Best Live Act, and Best Rock Album from the Independent Music Awards. Their music has seeped into the American consciousness on such television shows as Showtime’s Shameless and HBOs How to Make it in America. Mojo magazine has called them ” instantly identifiable as excellent.”

With THE DEVIL CAN’T DO YOU NO HARM, they have entered a new phase in their storied career – this is their first record with an American singer, and together they deliver a knock- out punch, broadcasting from the south of Spain to a global audience hungry for the next level of deep soul and psychedelic blues. Citing Capt. Beefheart, Hank Williams, and Odetta as a few of his greatest influences, Mike Edison’s voice is monstrous on this recording. Edison is a true rock’n’roll renaissance man: once acclaimed as an assassin behind the drums (with legendary Spanish punk rock band the Pleasure Fuckers, not to mention his time as an inmate in GG Allin’s band), Edison moved to the microphone to front his “gospel-blues-garage experiment” the Edison Rocket Train (produced by Edison with his longtime collaborator Jon Spencer). A ceaseless artist, Edison has also published numerous, critically acclaimed books, under his own name and as a gun-for-hire (including a New York Times bestseller), most recently a biography of Rolling Stones’ drummer Charlie Watts. His return to Spain to make this record – it was recorded at La Mina Studio, in Seville, where Guadalupe Plata have minted their most successful records- marks a milestone in his career.

THE DEVIL CAN’T DO YOU NO HARM is a cauldron of the New World and the Old, an indelible statement of love and protest. It is a colossus of rhythm, and a timeless testimony to the power of gospel and blues to deliver salvation. Get some, now.
