Of all the remarkable talents to arise from the dancehalls of Kingston, Jamaica, few have proved more compelling or controversial than Adidja Palmer, better known as Vybz Kartel. Revered on the streets of the ghetto garrisons, he has also been reviled as a scourge on society – both for his unadulterated lyrics and his unapologetic lifestyle. One thing nobody contests is that Vybz Kartel stands head and shoulders above his peers as a lyrical genius.

After breaking into the music business by penning hits for artists like Bounty Killer, he eventually decided to record for himself and has come to dominate Jamaica’s music scene, emerging as the genre’s biggest trendsetter. ‘Kingston Story’ was produced by Brooklyn-based producer Dre Skull and released on his independent label Mixpak Records in digital form only. Now ‘Kingston Story’ begins a new chapter, being released by Vice this summer in a deluxe double gatefold vinyl and CD edition with two new never-before-heard bonus tracks.
